Today, their age is beginning to show, but many of them they are still quite pleasant to stay in. All original-grade apartments have bathrooms with tubs, but no jacuzzis. They have ceramic flooring instead of marble. But there is one area where they do not differ from the ultra-luxury Premium Residences at all: The view. They all have waterviews, just as all of the Premium Residences do, too.

Some original-grade apartments have balconies, but not all do. The ones that do not have balconies have a correspondingly larger interior space.

Depending on size and features, you can still get an original-grade apartment for as little $20,000 or thereabouts. That's not a downpayment, it is the total purchase price for you to get full title. Then once you own it outright, here's what you can do with it:

• You can live and work here. Part of the year, and fulltime as your base.
  
  
• You can vacation here. In your own second home, and while you are not here, rent it out by the week or the month to other vacationers.
  
  
• You can invest here. Get a great deal on a condo facing the Caribbean Ocean. For rental income, property value appreciation, asset diversification and homeswapping.
  
  
• Or you can upgrade it. Have the original-grade apartment converted to a Premium Residence and save some dollars in the process.
  
  

Note: An owner of an original apartment can either keep it "as is" or give it a facelift to match the remodeled ones.
